Workshops
Hands-on workshops in Katherine’s Red Hook studio.
Where you’ll learn to carve your own ring in wax — for yourself, your partner or your favorite people.
No experience needed. You’ll be guided step by step through the process of carving a wax ring, which is then cast in the precious metal of your choice and finished in the studio for you to wear for years to come.
Workshops at the Studio
Workshops are a chance to slow down, learn a new skill and walk away with something you made yourself. You’ll spend a few hours in the Red Hook studio using real jeweler’s tools to carve a ring out of wax. Afterwards, your ring is cast by an expert caster in Manhattan’s diamond district in the metal you choose, then polished and finished by Katherine.
Whether you’re making a ring just for you, wedding bands together, or planning a small group event, the focus is always the same: a laid-back, creative experience and a ring you’ll actually want to wear.

What the Workshop Looks Like
We start by talking about what you’d like to make and making a simple plan for your ring or bands.
Using wax files, wolf wax carving tools, saw blades, sandpaper and other jeweler’s tools, you’ll carve your ring out of wax with guidance the entire time.
After the workshop, your wax ring is sent to an expert caster in Manhattan’s diamond district, where it’s cast in the precious metal you choose.
Back in the studio, Katherine polishes and finishes your ring. If you’d like stones or engraving, those details are added too. Rings are usually completed in about 4 weeks, or 4–5 weeks if we add extra elements.
Pricing & Details
Couples & Individual Workshops
(1–2 people)
Workshops are typically 2–3 hours and start at $175 per person, which includes instruction, tool use, wax materials and final polishing of your ring. The cost of the finished ring in precious metal is additional and depends on the metal you choose (14k gold, platinum, sterling silver, etc.) and the style of the ring.
Group Workshops
(3–4 people)
Group workshops for 3 or more guests (up to 4) usually start at $150 per person for a 2–3 hour session, including instruction, tools, materials and polishing. The cost of precious metal, stones and any special engravings is calculated separately.
Carve Your Own Ring
This workshop is perfect if you’ve always wanted to try jewelry making or create a meaningful piece for yourself or someone you love. Over 2–3 hours, you’ll learn how to plan your design and use wax files, carving tools, sandpaper and other jeweler’s tools to shape your ring in wax.
You don’t need any prior experience — just curiosity and a ring idea (even a very loose one). We’ll talk through what you’re looking to make, choose a direction together, and you’ll leave knowing your ring is on its way to becoming a finished piece in precious metal.

Wedding Band Workshops
For couples, a wedding band workshop is a memorable way to make your rings even more personal. You’ll carve your rings side by side — and you can even choose to carve each other’s bands. Every subtle mark and curve becomes part of your story together.
After the workshop, your wax bands are cast in the precious metal you choose, then finished and polished so they’re ready for the ceremony and all the days after. Stones and engravings can be added too; we’ll talk about those details when we plan your bands.
Private Events & Group Sessions
Want to turn a bachelorette party, birthday, or special day with friends into something you’ll remember — and wear? Private group workshops are available for small groups (up to 4 guests), and are a fun way to learn together and each carve a ring you’ll keep.
The vibe is relaxed and friendly — more like hanging out in the studio than a formal class — with guidance at every step. You’ll use real tools, see a bit of how the jewelry world works behind the scenes, and leave knowing your rings are on their way to becoming finished pieces.

— Peggy
My fiancé and I knew we wanted wedding rings that held a bit more meaning to us, so we decided to look for a couples workshop that would allow us to create our own wedding bands. We know next to nothing about jewelry, but Katie guided us through the process and helped us decide on what would be the best fit for us. We spent a lovely afternoon carving our rings with her and it was such a great and super fun experience! Katie is so sweet and personable, it felt more like friends just hanging out rather than an actual workshop. Our rings turned out beautifully and we couldn't be happier with the whole process from start to finish. We've already raved to our friends about her and highly recommend her to anyone who is interested in custom jewelry!
